About this Webinar
Safety conversations tend to focus on equipment, processes and procedures, yet the most neglected part of safety is ourselves: our minds, our energy and our wellbeing. In high-pressure environments, the drive to perform, deliver and keep going can quietly push people beyond their limits, and the signs of burnout are too often ignored or hidden until it’s too late. Culture, performance and wellbeing are not competing priorities. They are deeply connected, and the balance between physical and psychological health matters most when we are performing at our edge.
In this session, Julian Taylor sits down with Dan Sarginson, former professional rugby league player, England international, now a speaker and mentor in high performance and wellbeing. In 2018, at the very peak of his sporting career, Dan burnt out and was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Drawing on that experience and on what elite sport taught him about pressure and teamwork, Dan shares honest insights on why asking for help is a strength rather than a weakness, how safety culture can either fuel or ease performance pressure, how a psychologically safe environment allows for authenticity and creativity, and how workplaces can look after both the physical and psychological wellbeing of their people.
Dan also brings a topic he speaks about regularly: redefining resilience. Rather than seeing resilience as simply pushing through and carrying on, he makes the case for treating it as a mental foundation that every high-performing environment needs, and shows how doing so makes high performance sustainable.

Dan Sarginson
Public Speaker & Mentor in High Performance & Wellbeing
Dan Sarginson is a former professional rugby league player and England international, now a speaker and mentor in high performance and wellbeing. After making his first-team debut at 17, Dan spent years at the top of the game, winning Grand Finals at Old Trafford with Wigan Warriors.
In 2018, at the peak of his career, he burnt out and was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Choosing to ask for support began a journey of self-understanding that led him to retire from rugby at 29 and dedicate himself to helping individuals and teams achieve sustainable performance without sacrificing wellbeing. Today, Dan works with organisations and schools to show that wellbeing and performance are not mutually exclusive, and that human connection is at the heart of resilience, teamwork and success.
